Research Grant Abstracts

The ALS Association’s Clinical Management Research Grant Program (CMRGP) provides funding for clinical management research designed to improve the symptom management for people with ALS.  Competitive projects will include a research design and methods, strong scientific merit and high ALS relevance.

Abstract Requirements:

• Cover letter including the name, address, phone and fax numbers, e-mail address of the principal investigator (P.I.) and Co-P.I. (as appropriate). Include the name of the P.I.'s institution.

• Title of the project, brief discussion of the statement of the problem, specific aims, purpose or hypothesis(es).

• Concise overview of the research design including methods. Discuss plans for data analysis.

• Budget - Include only the total amount requested and subtotals for salary and non-salary items. 

• Brief statement regarding the impact of the study on human subjects and the P.I.'s plan for gaining IRB approval.

• One to two page biographical sketch of the P.I. and Co-P.I. (as appropriate).

• All abstracts should be typed and presented as a printed document, or as an e-mail attachment.

• Abstracts must be received by U.S. Mail, messenger or E-mail by January 5, 2009. Incomplete or late abstracts cannot be considered.

Evaluation Criteria:

1. Based on the review of submitted abstracts, selected investigators will be invited to submit full research proposal applications.

2. Abstracts are reviewed and decisions made based on:
   • Congruence of study topic with identified projects for 2009
   • Scientific merit
   • Relevance of the project to the clinical management of ALS
   • Qualifications of the principal investigator to conduct the research project
   • Appropriateness of the budget and feasibility of the project timeframe
