John, a 1969 West Point Graduate, served in the Army from 1969-1975. During his five years of service, John became an Airborne Ranger, an Aide de Camp, and was a company commander of the 720th Signal Company in Vietnam. In 1969 he married Dottie Rountree, his high school sweetheart, and they were married 42 years when John passed. They had 3 wonderful daughters and together with Dottie they cared for John during his 14 month battle with an aggressive form of ALS. John was a loyal West Pointer throughout life and often was heard shouting “Go Army, Beat Navy!”
